アルゼンチンは、メッシのゴールこそなかったが、イグアインのラッキーなゴールで、難敵のベルギーを振り切った。

メッシは、ボールを持つと、やはり決定的な仕事をする。ベルギーは、ヴィツェルがメッシをマークしていたが、全体的に、メッシに名前負けしていた気がする。

しかし、勝負を決めたのは、そのメッシではなかった。

ディ・マリアのシュートがはじかれたボールが、幸運にもイグアインの前に来て、それをイグアインがダイレクトにベルギーのゴールに叩き込んだ。

アルゼンチンは、ディ・マリアがベンチに下がった後は、何度かチャンスを迎えたが、決定的なものは少なかった。

メッシは、終了間際のキーパーとの1対1の絶好のチャンスを外してしまった。

アルゼンチンがベスト4に進んだのは、24年ぶり。24年前と言えば、1990年のイタリア大会で、アルゼンチンは、その前のメキシコ大会でマラドーナが率いて優勝し、連覇を狙っていた。

その後、バティストゥータ、クレスポ、そして、メッシらが引き継いだが、ようやく、そのメッシの時代になって、久しぶりにベスト4に進んだ。

ベルギーは、惜しい試合を落とした。アルゼンチンに勝つチャンスは何度かあったが、いずれも、自らの決定力の無さに泣いた。

しかし、このチームは、監督も選手も若い。次のヨーロッパ選手権でさらに力を身に付け、再び、次のロシア大会に、今大会以上の実力と貫録を付けて、帰ってくるだろう。
