準々決勝の2日目。最初の試合は、メッシ率いるアルゼンチンと、若きベルギーの戦い。

アルゼンチンが、前半分に挙げたゴールを守りきり、準決勝を駒を進めた。

前半8分、ディ・マリアのシュートが、相手DFに跳ね返り、幸運にもイグアインの前に。イグアインは、ダイレクトでシュートを放ち、これがゴール左に決まった。

ベルギーは、メッシを完全に封じることは出来なかったが、最後の最後で、守りきり、追加点は許さなかった。

前半は1−0のまま終了。

ベルギーは、後半、一気に攻撃的な2人を入れて、ゴール前に長身の選手を集めた空中戦を展開し、猛攻を仕掛けたが、アルゼンチンの守りを崩すことは出来なかった。

アルゼンチンのディフェンスは、これまでの試合では、あまり堅固なイメージではなかったが、さすがに今日は、負けたら終わりの試合ということもあって、集中力を切らさずに、守りきった。

ベルギーは、何度もいいチャンスを作りながら、最後の最後で決めきることが出来ず、1点が大きな壁となってしまった。
