このグループは、グループDほどではないが、もう一つの死のグループと言っていい。
ドイツは、ヨーロッパ予選のC組を1位で追加。FIFAランキングでも2位。紛れもない優勝候補の一つ。
2002年の日韓大会では準優勝。優勝が期待された2006年のドイツ大会、前回の南アフリカ大会では、いずれも3位という結果に終わっている。
ワールドカップの歴史を通じて、平均して最もいい成績を残しているのがこのドイツだろう。どんなチーム構成になっても、最後まで諦めずに忠実にボールを追い続けるその姿は、ゲルマン魂と表現されてきた。
