決勝トーナメントの初戦は、チリとの戦いだった。

その試合で、チームの中心ネイマールが大怪我。しかも、キャプテンのチアゴ・シウバが累積警告で出場できず、ドイツがやや優勢と見られていた。

試合が始まってみれば、前半11分のミュラーのゴールで、チームの中心選手がいないブラジルは、チームが崩壊。ドイツの大勝となった。
